When Should You Change or Repair Your Car’s Windshield?

Nowadays, repairing or changing the windshield of a car nowadays is in many cases, a small process that only requires a few minutes and very little cost. Not only breaks are a reason to change windshields, there could also be several other reasons you need to change your windshield.

The windshield is an element that can cost almost a fortune in some models because of its curvatures, surface treatments, anti-radiation, laminate, etc. There are some that costs more than thousand dollars for only the glass without the assembly or the moldings or trims that sometimes also need to be replaced.

Why should you change or repair the windshield?

Anyone can think that a slit through the windshield is a reason to replace it, but there are many more defects that are dangerous for driving and require replacement or repair. Moreover, many of these defects can cause a rejection at the time of passing the ITV, especially if these defects are in the field of vision of the driver. Some of the reasons your windshield needs a replacement are listed below:

#1: Scratched windshield

Most of the time, it is due to poor maintenance of the wiper blades. If we do not change them in time, they end up producing streaks on the glass which could be very annoying because they reduce our vision.

#2: Frosted windshield

Small pores in the surface of the glass caused by dust and sand. They are dangerous, because they make the brushes not clean well when it rains and also cause a very reduced vision with the sun in front and at night with traffic lights.

#3: Bulleye

They are known by this name because they are breaks that are shaped like a broken nail in the glass. These defects are not a cause of rejection in the ITV, unless they are directly in the driver’s field of vision.

#4: Rajas in the windshield

The slits in the glass usually cause rejection in the ITV whether or not in the field of vision because they pose a risk since these slits tend to extend and usually cause the total breakage of the glass.

#5: Removing the laminate

Sometimes, at the edges of the windshield there are areas that seem to be fogged that no matter how much we clean them, they do not disappear. What is happening is that the windshield laminate is taking off. Although it looks like a single crystal, in reality the moon of the car is formed by two glasses that adhere each to one side of a sheet of plastic material. They are made so that no pieces of glass are detached in case of breakage and are stuck to that sheet. Sometimes, the crystals detach from that sheet and this defect appears, which spreads rapidly, especially in humid and warm areas.

No one prays for an accident because of a bad or defected windshield. So, don’t wait till you have a breakage before you get a professional to change your windshield for you. You should contact reliable Auto Glass Experts immediately you start noticing any of these defects.
